Railway workers national strike

Nazionale -

There was large participation of railway workers in the national strike on 7–8 July.

The strike organised by the USB and grassroots organisations in the sector to reject the new national collective labour agreement signed by the yellow trade unions was the best response to this agreement.

Although the signatory organisations claimed that the contract had been approved by 68% of railway workers in a phantom-referendum, the very high strike participation rates recorded at all the most important Italian railway hubs totally contradict this claim and demonstrate that workers are fighting to reject a contract that fails to address the serious issues they face regarding wages, recruitment, workplace safety and regulatory recognition.

Despite the government and transport companies trying to prevent the strikes and refusing to negotiate with the unions that truly represent railway workers, the struggle continues.
