APPEAL OF THE USB - member of the World Federation of Trade Unions - TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENTARIES not to vote on Resolution 2023/2744 (RSP) with debate scheduled for Wednesday, 12 July 2023
Honourable Members of the European Parliament
The Resolution in question is the fruit of deviant communication, of an illegitimate, anachronistic and immoral misinformation that unduly and hypocritically interferes with the process of self-determination of the Cuban people and government.
Cuba is a free, sovereign and peaceful nation in the vanguard of health care, education, sport, scientific research and culture, which has always been committed in a spirit of democracy and international solidarity, particularly towards the poor countries of the so-called Third World, and has always been in the vanguard of the defence of human rights.
Accusations of affiliation with or sponsorship of terrorism, drug trafficking and destabilisation of countries or the entire continent of South America are unacceptable and to be rejected as they serve to fuel the ideological hatred promoted for more than sixty years by US governments that continue to maintain a genocidal blockade against the Cuban people of an economic, commercial m, financial and monetary nature.
Cuba has always fought for the defence of the rights of Humanity in full respect of the right to self-determination of each people and it is for this reason that we want to defend every effort of political dialogue, solidarity and cooperation with Cuba starting with the commitment signed in 2016 by the European Union.
It is for all these reasons that the Confederation of the Base Union of Trade Unions calls on the Honourable Members of the European Parliament to vote against the aforementioned Resolution.
